  113.       If you are installing Netscape Navigator 3.0 over an existing

  115.       copy of Netscape 2.X, you must reboot your system (not just

  153.       When installing Netscape 3.X,  a new Mailbox directory and file is created, in turn, 
  154.       your existing Mail directory and file from Netscape 2.X is not referenced within the 
  155.       new directory or file.   A way to ensure your existing mail from Netscape 2.X points 
  156.       to your new Mailbox directory and file, follow the few steps listed below.

  158.       Go to Options within Netscape 2.X  menu.   Select Mail and News Preferences. 
  159.       Under the Servers tab youíll find Mail directory, and the Composition tab reference 
  160.       the outgoing Mail file.

  314.    c. I can't connect to the network. What do I do?

  318.       There are several reasons why you may not be able to connect
  319.  
  320.       to the network. Here are four of the most common:
  321.

  324.       1) In order to gain access to the network, you must type in your
  325.  
  326.          UserID and password exactly as you entered them when you reg-
  327.  
  328.          istered for your Concentric Network account. Make sure that
  329.  
  330.          you are typing in your UserID and password correctly.
  331.  
  332.  
  333.  
  334.       2) If you upgraded from Netscape Navigator PE version 2.X,
  335.  
  336.          you must restart your entire computer after the installation
  337.  
  338.          process before you can connect to the network. The Install
  339.  
  340.          Wizard will restart Windows for you, but this is not the
  341.  
  342.          same as rebooting your whole system. To reboot, wait for
  343.  
  344.          Windows to come onscreen again, then close it down. At the
  345.  
  346.          DOS prompt, hit your reset button, or switch the power off
  347.  
  348.          and on again to reboot your computer.
  349.

  352.       3) If you have configured Microsoft TCP/IP to use DNS (Domain
  353.  
  354.          Name Service), you may not be able to connect to other hosts
  355.  
  356.          through your Dial-Up Networking connection.  Your Dial-Up
  357.  
  358.          Networking connection contains its own fields for
  359.  
  360.          Concentric's name servers, which will be not be used if
  361.  
  362.          you have specified name servers in your Microsoft TCP/IP
  363.  
  364.          configuration.

  368.          The Account Setup Wizard will warn you if you have
  369.  
  370.          configured Microsoft TCP/IP to use DNS.  If you see this
  371.  
  372.          warning, double-click the Getting Started icon in your
  373.  
  374.          Netscape Navigator program group, and read the topics on "DNS
  375.  
  376.          configuration" to either modify or disable DNS.
  377.

  380.       4) In order to execute properly, Netscape uses a file called
  381.  
  382.          winsock.dll, a copy of which was installed in the c:\cncinet\
  383.  
  384.          netscape directory on your system with this software. If you
  385.  
  386.          have more than one copy of winsock on your system, Netscape
  387.  
  388.          may not be able to tell which one to use. To find out if you
  389.  
  390.          have multiple copies of winsock on your system, and to learn
  391.  
  392.          how to disable redundant copies, follow these steps:
  393.  
  394.  
  395.  
  396.          a) Locate all copies of winsock.dll on your system.
  397.  
  398.             * Windows 3.x users, open the Main Program Group, and
  399.  
  400.               double click on the File Manager icon. Select
  401.  
  402.               File | Search, and type in winsock.dll
  403.  
  404.             * Windows 95 users, click on the Start button, and select
  405.  
  406.               Programs | Windows Explorer. Select Tools | Find, and
  407.  
  408.               type in winsock.dll
  409.  
  410.          b) If the resulting list shows that you have more than one
  411.  
  412.             copy of winsock.dll on your system, you must rename the
  413.  
  414.             redundant copies to disable them. DO NOT RENAME THE
  415.  
  416.             WINSOCK.DLL FILE IN YOUR C:\CNCINET\NETSCAPE DIRECTORY.
  417.  
  418.             This is the one copy of the file that Netscape will need
  419.  
  420.             in order to execute properly.
  421.  
  422.          c) In File Manager or Windows Explorer, locate a redundant
  423.  
  424.             winsock.dll file that is NOT in the c:\cncinet\netscape
  425.  
  426.             directory.
  427.  
  428.          d) Highlight the winsock.dll file
  429.  
  430.          e) From the File menu, select Rename
  431.  
  432.          f) Rename the file: winsock.old
  433.  
  434.          g) Repeat steps 3-6 for each redundant winsock.dll file,
  435.  
  436.             changing the name slightly each time to winsock2.old,
  437.  
  438.             winsock3.old, etc. DO NOT RENAME THE WINSOCK.DLL FILE
  439.  
  440.             IN YOUR C:\CNCINET\NETSCAPE DIRECTORY.

  442.          h) Try connecting to Concentric Network again to see if
  443.  
  444.             this change resolved your problem.
